Turn on two-factor authentication in Facebook
Even if someone knows your password, they can't log in without the code that comes to you.
5 steps
- 1
Step 1
Open Accounts Center
Tap the menu ☰ ← "Settings & privacy" ← "Settings" ← "Accounts Center".
- 2
Step 2
Open two-factor authentication
Tap "Password and security" ← "Two-factor authentication" ← choose your Facebook account.
- 3
Step 3
Choose a security method
Choose "Authentication app" or "Text message (SMS)", then tap "Next".
Tip: An authentication app (like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) is stronger than text messages, because texts can be stolen if someone moves your number to another SIM. But SMS is much better than nothing.

Step 4
Finish turning it on
Follow the steps on screen, and enter the code you receive to confirm.
- 5
Step 5
Save your recovery codes
On the same two-factor page ← "Additional methods" ← "Recovery codes". Write them on paper and keep them somewhere safe.
Tip: These codes save you if you lose your phone or SIM. Don't save them as a photo on the same phone.
